I really loved this place. It's a really small place, but the tacos were delicious and cheap. The two ladies working were so kind and gave great service. Spicy pork tacos were the best. Be prepared to buy a lot. Would come back if I lived in JC.

Coming from someone who has had truly traditional korean food, this restaurant to me has the best korean food I have ever had. My favorite dinner dishes would be the hot stone bibimbap, the kimchee soup, and the tofu soup. For lunch, a quick inexpensive spicy chicken or pork taco is great. I go at least once a week and wish I could go even more

This is NOT a Korean Restaurant! For the first thing, there is no such thing as Korean tacos in Korea; I've lived there and I eat Korean food very often here in the states and I've never heard of this until now. Secondly, when I told the waitress that I didn't see what I wanted on the menu, she asked what I wanted, so I told her daeji bulgogi, but she had never heard of it (it is a very common spicy pork dish)! I described it to her and she said that they could make it. Wrong. The dish I received was similar to what I wanted only in that it included pork. The dish I received had yellow and green bell peppers, jalapenos and shredded cabbage and carrots mixed in with small chunks of supposedly spicy pork bits. This is not daeji bulgogi! Real daeji bulgogi has only spicy pork and onions in it. Either the waitress did not rely my order correctly or the cook is not Korean. Also, they must use Minute Rice or some other cheap brand of rice because I had to eat it with a fork; real Korean restaurants use sticky rice so that you can pick it up with chop sticks. Needless to say, I don't recommend this place if you want Korean food.

My wife is half Korean and we love Korean Cuisine. Everyone has a bad day and unfortunately for us it was on our first visit here. We saw this place and were excited because we always like to try new restaurants. It was about 1:30 and the place had several customers. It is small with only about 7 tables. We ordered.... And waited, and waited. After 30 minutes our waitress stopped by and apologized and we waited and waited. Several customers who came in after we did had already gotten their good and finished their meals. And we waited some more until I finally told the waitress that if we didn't get our food soon we were leaving. About five minutes later my wife's dish came out. And I waited.... After another 5 minutes my dish came out. Over 90 minutes for average Korean food in an average atmosphere with lousy (at least for us) service. Doubt they will get a second chance as you only get one chance to make a good first impression-and they blew it. We like Red Chile in Elizabethton A LOT better. Much better food and service there and worth an extra 10 minute drive from JC.

Great food in a tight space. Very clean. Friendly service. Been three times and enjoyed every meal. The tacos are delicious, the pork was my favorite. The bimbap was my favorite so far, very fresh vegis and perfectly cooked egg! And the noodle soup was just spicy enough...just hate you have to dine in to get it because it would be my new chicken soup for when I get sick.

To be fair, when it comes to Asian restaurants, you really want to listen to how asian customers (especially those have the same ethnicity as the restaurant) say about the food. My family is original from China but somehow everyone loves Korean food. I could finish a whole bibimbap just by myself since age of 7. Later on I dated a Korean guy for nearly a year. He introduced me more authentic Korean food. So about this restaurant, I would give a five star if the service was better. The owner, also the cook, is a Korean lady, which automatically adds point to authenticy. First of all, I want to address that the Korean Taco on the appetizer menu is not an authentic Korean food, which means in Korean there's no such a thing. What makes it stands out is the way the seasoned the meat. They use some Korean way cook what they put inside of the taco. It's delicious, worthy to give it a try. Now, what you really want to order here if you expect authentic Korean food? Here's my list for you. Bibimbap, kimchi soup, tofu soup, bulgogi and ojingeo-bokkeum. I've tried every single of those dishes. Compared with what I had at other korean restaurants, these are pretty good. Also, my korean ex boyfriend said they were good. At the end, I'd like to share couple random facts here. If you notice that on the menu they have this "build-you-own ramen" and you wonder if it's good. I'd say go for it. In Korea, pretty much all restaurants offer this kind of option, simply because Korean just love ramen SO much. Second fact, is about fried rice. I know I know, fired rice is a big deal to Americanized or Westernized Asian food, but to be honest, in asian countries such as China, Japan, or Korea, fried rice really means left over for us. Believe it or not, that how people in this couture deal with their left over dishes and rice... Even though you can get many fancy versions of fired rice, and don't get me wrong, some taste really not bad. It's just for us, asian, we really can care less about getting fried rice at a restaurant.

Ok, here's my rationale for giving this place 5 stars. If this had been a restaurant in a large city with numerous other Korean restaurants, it would not necessarily garner 5 stars. Being as this is the only Korean restaurant in Johnson City and the food actually serves authentic Korean fare, this place deserves 5 stars for being unique to the area and actually does a great job with its menu and food preparation! To the other reviewer who gave this establishment a poor rating, I can't help but be perplexed by his review. He states that because he lived in Korea, this is not a Korean restaurant due to its taco option. Again, if you place this restaurant with respect to its locale and clientele, they have to tailor the menu to appeal to clients who may be unfamiliar with traditional Korean food. (And yes, tons of restaurants and popular food trucks in cities are offering creative Korean taco fare.) Kudos to Korean Taco House for placing this on their menu, but I also feel that the name Korean Taco House cheapens the quality of all the other legit Korean food that they have on their menu. The name of the restaurant is misleading. If you're looking for Korean tacos, by all means, order it; however, if you want legitimate Korean homestyle cooking, I definitely recommend the authentic options on the rest of the menu. Also in response to that other Yelper,...if someone orders something off the menu and then criticizes what they receive, whose fault is it in the first place? Tsk tsk tsk. We had just endured a long arduous drive into the area for the holidays, and craving late night grub, I checked out what was open in the evening at that particular hour on my trusty Yelp app. To my surprise, I was curious when I saw Korean Taco House. I was a bit uncertain about the other reviews, but being how I always crave Korean food, I was willing to make the drive out here. I came in with low expectations and left with positive happy glowing praise for this place. The menu is small, but the options are varied, traditional, and the prices are extremely fair! I knew this place was legit when I looked at the dessert menu and to my utter joy I saw the Korean Melon Bar (Ice Cream Bar) aka Melona. To serve Melona is a small detail that to me speaks volumes about this place, considering how you can't just get it at your local grocery store. Since Johnson City doesn't have asian supermarkets, it means that the proprietors had to ship this in from outside Johnson City. Have the Melona bar for dessert, you'll be addicted. I was so pleased when I saw that they offered complimentary banchan (the small appetizer dishes). Upon tasting the traditional cabbage kimchi, I knew we were off to a great start. You can tell the quality of a Korean restaurant by the quality of its kimchi. (If a Korean restaurant's basic kimchi is off the mark - shame on them - as it will only foretell poor delivery on the rest of the menu.) My husband had the bibimbap in hot stone bowl, I had the kimchijigae (kimchi soup), and my father had the ojingeo-bokkeum (spicy squid). To my utter surprise, when the food was brought out, my eyes bugged out when I saw the ingredients on top of his bibimbap - they had authentic bracken/"gosari" on it which I did not expect from this locale. All the other toppings on his bibimbap were on par and authentic. My kimchi soup (fantastic for a cold winter night) came out bubbling (as it should). Again, when I first ordered, I had low expectations. As soon as I tasted my soup, I knew it was good. For discerning tofu eaters, many know that there are different types of tofu ranging from silken to firm. My soup had the soft kind, another pleasant surprise as other restaurants will take the easy way out and cook with firm tofu. The more I gluttonously spooned into my mouth, imagine my joy when I found....wait for it....anchovies in my soup. (I should've paid more attention since it did state anchovies on the menu). To me, this is a GREAT thing, because anchovies are a MUST in traditional Korean soups. It's what gives Korean soups their robustness and tasty saltiness. I've been in several Korean restaurants that skimp on this critical detail because they fear that their clientele will be turned away by anchovies. Another impressive thing from all our dishes - the chef did NOT skimp on the spiciness. The level of spiciness is appropriately Korean! I'm incredibly happy that the chef did not tone it down, maintaining flavor, spiciness, and authenticity the whole way. It is not for the faint of heart, but I'm sure you could ask the chef to modify accordingly if spiciness is not your thing. Don't let the name Taco House deter you. Yes, the name is misleading, but the rest of the traditional menu items are the true stars of this place. I had tried Red Chili in Elizabethton before, but I am more impressed with Taco House. If you want Korean food in Johnson City, THIS is the place to go.

Way more than tacos! We had the bibimbap, spicy (and they mean SPICY!) squid stir fry, and beef rolls. Everything was freshly prepared...but still made quickly. Staff was super friendly and helpful. Great kimchi and pickled radish. A beer would have been perfect with the spice, but that was the only thing missing. Very small, just a few tables, but that's part of the charm.

This place is a must try. I stopped in for lunch this past Saturday and was really pleased. Its a tiny place but beautifully and brightly decorated. Very warm and cozy. I ordered three tacos: two pork and one chicken. They have marinated(I think) meat, cheese, lettuce, and cilantro. The pork was my favorite thnough both were good. We were the only table there and it took them about four minutes to bring us our food. Super fast. They have this incredible home made sweet and spicy sauce. Its so amazingly awesome. It has a sneaky heat to it. Wonderful. I will go back to try some of the yummy entrees on the menu.

I ended up going on a Friday night; it is a very small restaurant and it was crammed full. Our waitress said for some reason it was a very busy day for them, but that's always a good sign! But since it was so busy, they unfortunately ran out of ingredient for Bibimbap right after I ordered it. Bibimbap is one of the most amazing dishes I have ever had, and if you haven't really tried ethnic foods, this is a good dish to start with. So instead I ordered two chicken tacos, not spicy - but spicy is an option, and there are other meats available as well. My husband ordered the beef friend rice which was served inside an omelet. All entrees come with three sides chosen by the chef; one will always be kimchi, but the chef changes the other two daily. So the other two sides we had were radishes - one spicy, one not. Each side had unique flavors and were definitely fun to try. My Korean tacos were surprisingly delicious. I was initially put off by Korean tacos, as I always associated tacos with Mexican food, but I was impressed by the simplicity yet great flavor of them.

I was so surprised to find a Korean restaurant near me that I had to try it! I got the bibimbap which was pretty good. It had everything I would expect from a traditional dish, even topped with egg. It's not as good as back home but it definitely satisfied my craving. I'll have to go back and try their tacos which are apparently delicious!

I had the spicy pork tacos and they were divine. The prices are so affordable. The place is cute, small, and clean. The service is super fast and friendly. I am looking forward to trying more items off of the menu. This place is super affordable on a budget but with so much flavor and variety!
